We began the fall with our traditional salad potluck; a low-key & wonderful way for women to connect with one another over delicious dishes.
Our Women’s Ministry Team had the privilege to attend the Willow Creek Leadership Summit at the end of September. I felt like we came away with so much invaluable wisdom, encouragement & challenges, both personally & ministry-related.
A highlight for me was our fall Women’s Retreat at Camp Cedarwood in October. It felt like this weekend set the tone for the months to follow for our women. Led by guest speaker, Carol Letkeman, we were encouraged to “Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life.” (Isaiah 55:3a NLT). We dug into God’s word & were given tools to help us discern His voice and seek encouragement from Him & for others. It was an amazing weekend filled with great fellowship as we listened to one another’s stories, prayed together, laughed & cried together, had communion with one another & worshipped together.
Stemming out of our weekend retreat, we have had a number of prayer times. These have been invaluable & continue to be an important part of our women & our ministry.
Another major highlight for many women was our 5th annual Christmas Brunch. We were graced with guest speaker Virginia Lehotsky; sharing her personal story & encouraging us with her humbleness. Scrumptious dishes, Christmas music & numerous door prizes all added to this spectacular morning!
We were blessed to once again have Salome Hiebert lead a Tuesday Afternoon Women’s Bible Study. This study is life giving for those women that attend, with a small group feel & quality time in God’s Word & prayer. With so many little ones amongst us in our larger church family, we were delighted to see a MOM’s Program start up once again. This is a great informal time for Moms to get out and chat with other Moms while the kids interact & play together. They meet every Tuesday morning at the Church from 10am – 11:30am in the nursery or the gym. Kids of all ages are welcome & there is no cost.
We gathered from January to March for an exciting 8-week study titled “James: Mercy Triumphs” by Beth Moore. We were challenged in countless ways through this small book of the bible & encouraged to live out our faith in practical ways. Each week, we were given a “doing” activity to help aide us in “putting some real feet to our walk of faith”.
Another treat for us this year was the “Spring Showcase of the Heart”. 18 different vendors/small businesses came out to show their wares & let us women pa-rouse, taste-test, & purchase their goodies. Laurel Wiebe, owner of JustGiftBaskets demonstrated how we can create our own gift baskets & Susan Kukkonen, counsellor at the Charis Centre (Union Gospel’s Women’s Addiction Recovery Program), shared about the work & program that goes on at the Centre. $700 was raised in donations for the Charis Centre that morning which will go towards landscaping their grounds.
I have been richly blessed through this ministry & am excited to see where God is continuing to lead us.
